- Developed the leading ssessment framework to assess accented speech and dialectal variations (The CAAI Assessment Model (Shah,2009))
- Developed a diagnostic test battery and assessment methods (CAAI, Shah, 2007)
- Developed an evidence-based practice model specifically for accents and dialects
- Introduced terms in the literature and our profession, “Accent management” (TM), “Accent Modification Implementation” TM. (Click here for details on these terms)
- Consistent peer-reviewed presentations to train and inform the clinical community over 12 years (25 presentations so far) and several Key note lectures
- Founded a nonprofit institute, the “EBAM INSTITUTE, L.L.C” to develop a community of evidence-based trainers, students, and clinics to promote evidence-based accent management
- Paradigm-shift in cultural competence training: Developed listener-focused trainings to develop skills and sensitivity in understanding accents and dialects
- Professional development and CEU webinars throughout the country through leading CEU providers (ASHA, Speechpathology.com, and Cross Country Education)
- Created social media platforms to promote and share awareness about the needs and values of culturally- and linguistically-diverse people
- Made video documentaries for clinical education on diverse clients’ needs and values
- Invited publications in clinical venues: ASHA Leader, Perspectives of Special Interest Group, etc.
- Published case studies as working models of evidence-based accent management
- Developed best-practice models in hospitals and corporations: Doctors without Accent Borders TM, and Corporations without Accent Models TM
- Invited twice on international think-tank delegations to promote cross-cultural relations (Niagara Foundation to Turkey, and The Oxford Round Table at the University of Oxford in England.
- Speech, voice, and accent consultant to media: Interviewed on National Public Radio, MSNBC, NBC News, Today’s Show, Fox News, and Ohio Channel (television).
